PRESIDENTS REVIEW OF THE YEAR 2013-2014

This has been a great year for the West Seattle Lions Club! One of our projects includes giving books to primary schools in West Seattle and White Center. Each child receives a book to take home. We gave out over 1000 and the look on the faces of the students when they received a book was priceless !

In addition to being president of the club, I am also chairman of the committee Leader Dogs for the Blind in the District which is also one of our projects. Also, I just finished a year as Zone Chairman. One of the projects I am proud of is the Mural in White Center which took 6 months to complete and guests from all over the District attended the dedication.

At the conclusion of our year, both the club and I received awards for outstanding service as a Lion ! To obtain this award, the club must donate $1000 to the Lions Club International Foundation. This prestigious organization is first to respond to tragedies in the world and is trying to eliminate preventable blindness !

Our club gained 5 new members for the year and we again paraded at the West Seattle HiYu parade in July. Our two pancake breakfasts were a success and our auction made nearly $10,000. We are proud of our scholarship program for West Seattle High School graduates and gave out 7, $1000 awards. We collected over 2000 pairs of glasses for recycling. Every year, we provide many pairs of eyeglasses for low income people in our community.

I have enjoyed being president again and helping to make our community a better place.

Thank You,
Jimie Martin

2015 Events Coming Soon

On Saturday, March 7, we had a community service project with the Evergreen campus baseball team. They needed some equipment. My neighbor being on the team, came over to ask me because of being a Lion, if we could help the baseball team to earn some money. This school is one of the poorest schools in the state. The Levy had not passed for four years. This year the levy passed, but they will only give to the athletic department things that will keep them safe. So they have no bats, no balls, no other equipment to begin their practices. On March 7, the West Seattle Lions arranged for a breakfast with the Eagles of White Center. The Eagles agreed, they would give us the room, pay for the food, and provide the cook. I made all the arrange I organized the Kawana's, the Rotary club, and the West Seattle Lions to come to combined in getting the equipment for the Evergreen campus baseball team. I arranged with the coaches and the boys to sell tickets for the breakfast. Three of the lions come in the morning and decorated. The boys from the baseball team help serve. This was a big event for the service clubs, each club help sell tickets and helped to make sure this event went well. The Eagles did a great job on cooking providing food and supporting this team. The West Seattle Lions organized to make sure the breakfast went very well.Called a lot of the clubs to make sure that they would all participate. This event was a great community service for White Center and The West Seattle Lions Club. We had 3 weeks to do this in. The breakfast was a great success all four clubs with the great help of theEagles 96,890.01 made $1700. This was a great opportunity for all service clubs to come together to help the community. I was proud as the West Seattle Lions president to be able to help in this project. Jimie A Martin PZC President of The West Seattle Lions
